If you’re like many other people ringing in 2016, you’ve set some New Year’s resolutions. Getting healthier may be at the top of your list. While resolutions can be helpful, if you don’t have the right approach, they can also be short-lived. Here are some tips to help keep you on track:
Keep Goals Realistic – Whether you want to exercise more or cut some foods from your diet, make sure your goals are attainable. If you don’t work out at all, it’s probably not best to set a goal of working out every day. Also, completely denying yourself certain foods may make you crave it even more, so perhaps try reducing by a certain amount first. Don’t set yourself up for failure.
Find a Friend to Assist – While you may have the best intentions, you may lack the motivation. Try enlisting a friend to help out. Perhaps a workout partner? Or a buddy to simply hold you accountable for food decisions throughout the day. Having someone else in your corner helps.
Plan Accordingly – If you know you want to hit the gym, structure your day to ensure you get there. Pack all clothes and items in advance and take them with you if necessary. Plan out your meals as well. Packing lunches will reduce the chances of eating something that will set your goal back.
Celebrate the Small Stuff – Don’t be too hard on yourself. Celebrate your accomplishments and each step you take to get closer to your goal. If you have a setback, don’t give up.
Here is to a healthy and happy 2016!
